Challenge: Remember When...

i haven't been posting much lately because i've been mired in an unpleasant necessary task. my mom passed away a couple of years ago and ...god rest her soul, she left us a big mess.

you see mom was a hoarder. she saved EVERYTHING! i'm still not sure how i feel about that because two and a half years later we are still cleaning out her house. we haven't even started on the rest of the storerooms.

it's taking a long time because we need to go through everything piece by piece. we have found it all......from out and out trash, to very valuable collectables, and yes, even some really weird stuff that has left us going ...HUH?

anyway, i'm choosing to dwell on the neat nostalgic stuff i've found.

the painting in my last post was my greatest find so far, i think.

i've found things like my grade school report cards and artwork, old family photos, old toys, (some we never got to play with) and even some family treasures.

for instance, my handstitched baby blanket, which apparently i never used. the hand written note tucked inside the sealed package said it was made for me by my greatgrannie annie {1875-1962}. pretty cool.

hey, anyone remember when this was how you kept warm?

something else i took home was an entire cabinet of these anybody remember when this was in style?

i also found some of these....i don't know why i kept them, i just did. the picture didn't quite come out like i hoped, but, then trial and error are the keys to success.

you all know, for me it's more about the story behind the photo than the quality of the photo itself

i know there is alot in this post, but, i hope you don't mind my trip down memory lane.

i'd like you to join me and post some of your memories. if ya don't have any handy, go out and find something that makes you say...hey, i remember when....

love,

d

ps...oh! ...and for dub...the twirling photo was stuck in the frame. i couldn't get a good scan on it, so...i'm posting my miss shrimporee photo for you instead!

It should be fun, especially if different generations join in. I may have to visit my parents house for this one :  )

    Great examples Dee!

dub it's gonna take years to go thru...i have a steamer trunk full and at least 3 or 4 big rubbermaid tubs, some as i said, are from the turn of the century.

that's not counting the super8's and vcr tapes.

a great set, the only thing I saved from years ago were my crochet pattern books. I have copied them becasue they are falling apart. Look at the prices of the pattern books now and would you believe that when I started to crochet they were only 5 cents. crochet hooks were only a nickel.
