You’ve come to a great place, a community, for photography. That’s right folks, you’re joining a family. A family that shares a common interest: Photography, of course!
We are not here just to share pictures. Our goal is to learn something new about photography, regardless of our skill level or the type of camera we use. If you have a willingness to learn then stick around. We are very interested in viewing the photos you share with us, but please take time to comment on other members' photos too.
People learn through comments left in the posts. You may not feel qualified to comment on another person's stories, but we aren't necessarily looking for comments full of photographic jargon. We want to know what you liked, or didn't like about the photos you viewed, so tell us. Your opinion matters, even if you're just getting into this wonderful hobby. You learn by expressing what you like or don’t like, whether you have the technical words or not. As one of our esteemed members would say: "If it’s crap, call it crap."
Speak your mind about why you like, love, dislike or loathe a picture. Just remember, everyone has opinions, be kind and respectful. Don’t take it to heart or as a put-down; take them as suggestions from another person’s perspective.
Also, don’t be afraid to engage in conversation! If you don’t understand what someone has suggested, or you took a picture for a certain reason (maybe to convey an emotion) reply to their comments and maybe you can open the viewer up to the way you wanted the image to be seen, and not how they are seeing it. As Ansel Adams once said: “There are always two people in every picture: the photographer and the viewer.
Lastly, DON'T FORGET TO USE THE FORUMS!
There is a place to discuss photography (rightly named Photography Discussion). A place to ask questions about a camera you’ve been wondering about, or some feature on the camera you already have. Share articles you find online, discuss photography.
We also have a general forum (The Lounge) for getting to know all of us just a little better.
It’s the reason we call ourselves a family. We laugh, cry and argue together like a family. A dysfunctional family… perhaps. But it’s still a family.
